Carpenter Technology Corporation, one of the world’s premier suppliers of high-performance steels, developed Maxamet specifically for use in the rollers of their steel rolling mills. Shaping hot steel demands an alloy that is incredibly hard and tough and can retain those properties in extreme conditions. Maxamet’s extraordinary alloy composition meets those challenges, transcending the properties of conventional tool steels and approaching those of cemented carbides. One of only a handful of companies to successfully master this demanding material, Spyderco is now incorporating it into the production of an elite group of its US-made products to give them best-in-class cutting performance and edge retention. In the Manix 2 Lightweight, this material is the basis of a broad, full-flat-ground, PlainEdge blade with a Trademark Round Hole for ambidextrous one-handed opening. The blade is paired with a lightweight, Bi-Directional Textured handle injection molded from gray fiberglass-reinforced co-polymer (FRCP). Spyderco’s patented Ball Bearing Lock mechanism locks the blade securely open in use and, along with a reversible tip-up wire clip, ensures that both carry and operation of the knife are completely ambidextrous.
